UFUK BEYDEMIR

SINGER

Ufuk Beydemir is a singer, songwriter and tennis coach based in Istanbul. He became known in Turkey with the release of his song “Ay Tenli Kadın”. Ufuk bought a guitar on his own to write songs and learned to play it by himself. The journey that started in a room with his efforts evolved into the songs that he sang altogether at gigs. He was 16 or 17 when he started it and now Ufuk is 28. It looks like for Ufuk it’s quite satisfying the level that he has reached.

What was your favourite toy that you still remember from your childhood? Why?

Recalling? Most of the toys that I had are still preserved. For example, the Dalmatian dog toy that I have owned since my childhood is still standing on my desk. From my earliest recollection, I have a curious interest in dalmatian dogs. To me they are the animals of natural wonder.

What is your dressing style about?

Each passing day vintage clothing is becoming more popular but apart from this trend, car designs and the music of related periods, like 70s and 90s always attracted my attention. As a person who wants to act comfortably in the clothes, I think the fashion style of the 90s is made for me. I like combinations of pastel and contrasting colors.

What is the coolest piece in your wardrobe?

I have an orange coat which I bought secondhand. I think it belongs to 90s, it might be the coolest piece that I have.

If there is any style icon you follow, who is it and why?

It’s interesting but I can say David Gilmour. The popularity of Pink Floyd, which is coming from the 70s, is still impressive to me. Performing just with a plain t-shirt and ordinary jeans at the concerts he still gives even after the enormous music they have made. It is my ideal to be in this purity and comfort.

What is your favourite decorative object in your house?

While on tour, I bought a hand-made rifle decorated with mother-of-pearl in Gaziantep and sent it to Istanbul by cargo. I don’t know its date of origin, but it’s a pretty old rifle.

Which neighbourhood and place in Istanbul is your favourite one? Why?

Kadıköy Antikacilar street is always peaceful to me. We would go to Grunge Rock Bar saying, “Let’s drink two beers and run away,” and have to leave with the warning, “We close now, mates.”

What was the coolest country, city or place to have the best fun ever? What did you do?

Frankly, I haven’t had the opportunity to travel a lot so far. We can even be surprised in which city we were in when we were on the tour. I will not be able to name a particular city, but I can say that my travels are fun with the team. Unfortunately, I miss these trips and concerts every day, especially when I am under the quarantine.

How do you spent your home stay these days?

It will sound cliche but I watch TV & movies, and read books. Playing guitar training and writing new songs are my biggest physical activities.
