OCEANIC MASKS OF ALEXIS VASILIKOS
Alexis Vasilikos // Masks & The Oceanic
June 12 – July 27
CAN Gallery is presenting Alexis Vasilikos’ solo show tonight at 20:00. The photography artist deals with two juxtaposing realities in his Masks & the Oceanic exhibition.

On one hand Masks is a series of highly processed abstract photographic works, a series of meta-images that stand between traditional analogue photograms and abstract painting. They are composed by photographic material such as glitches, scratches, noise or light. Textures that usually photographers remove when editing the images and are often seen as imperfections or waste become the primary material for these highly abstracted photo-paintings.

On the other hand the Oceanic series is a series of heavily manipulated images of landscapes that reference Romanticism and revolve around the idea of the Oceanic feeling, a phrase coined by Romain Rolland to refer to the sensation of being one with the universe.
