COOL PEOPLE / ALEX ZAKHARCHUK
ALEX ZAKHARCHUK
SINGER
Alex Zakharchuk is an Ukrainian singer, music composer and lyrics author from Kiev. He started his music career in 2015. There are four videos, twelve singles and one LP in his personal arsenal. But last year he decided to take a break from his work because he wanted to make a new music with more important messages for his audience. Alex needed a time to figure out which way to move on. He really desires his music to be not only entertaining for his audience, but also insightful. Alex is preparing to release his very special song, very soon. In addition to all these, he is also an international political scientist by education, but he never preferred to work in that field because his passion for music is his priority.
What was your favourite toy that you still remember from your childhood? Why?
I remember Winnie the Pooh puzzle of 400 peaces (it was really big for that time). And also a Lego constructor. If I am not mistaken, it was a police station. And I loved them because I really enjoyed creating something huge from all those little pieces.
What is your dressing style about?
I prefer classic. I think nothing fits a man better than a well-tailored suit. Of course I have a lot of casual clothes: jeans, sweatshirts and sneakers. By the way, I love sneakers so much and I often buy a new pair a month. I love bright colours in my clothes. Even if I wear a grey suit I’ll mix it with something bright, like a pocket square, a bracelet or vivid socks.
What is the coolest piece in your wardrobe?
I have a lot of cool stuff in my wardrobe… But I think my favourite one is Dolce & Gabbana majolica shirt from the Capri collection. It’s in white and blue colours and it’s just awesome! I bought it during my vacation in Sardinia in 2017. And it’s still my favourite one.
If there is any style icon you follow, who is it and why?
Of course there are many very stylish men who inspire me. I love Tom Ford. I think he is the best example of how a real man should look. I also like Jon Kortajarena, a Spanish model and actor. I love his style. David Beckham and Eddie Redmayne – each of them has a lot to learn from.
What is your favourite decorative object in your house?
I have a lot of Ralph Lauren’s furniture in my house. And each of them is like a piece of art. But my favourite one is the Highbridge desk. It is made of chrome plated steel and glass. And it looks just amazing.
Which neighbourhood in Kiev is your favourite one? Why?
I think Podil (the old lower part of town next to the river) is one of the cutest neighbourhoods in Kiev. It’s very old and cozy. There are many nice cafes, bars, restaurants and galleries. You can just walk around it in a warm summer day and enjoy it’s unique atmosphere.
What is your favourite place in Kiev? Why?
Everyone who comes to Kiev should visit a Parovoz speak easy bar and a LoggerHead bar. Both of them are located close to each other in a city centre. So you can start your night at the first one and then continue to the second one. They are pretty small and usually packed but there you will definitely find the best cocktails in the city. Also I love Italian food. So my favourite Italian place is Osteria Pantagruel.
What was the coolest country, city or place to have the best fun ever? What did you do?
I really love traveling. And I travel a lot around the world. And it’s too hard for me to choose one country or city. I love the United States, especially California and Florida. I love Italy and France. Paris is my love forever. Germany, Spain and Greece. Each time, in every country and city I had a good time alone or with my friends or parents. I also try to find something new: museums, restaurants and bars. But at the same time, I visit my favourite places. I don’t like to sit in hotels or on the beaches. I like to explore and I like to be on the move. I remember my last vacation on Amalfi Coast, in Italy. There was a very nice bar called Cafe Mirante. Every night we went there to have that special moment. We drank fantastic cocktails and enjoyed the best sunset on the coast.
How do you spent your homestay these days?
It’s not easy to stay at home, not to see friends and family. Thank God we have video calls, so it really helps. But we have to stay remote for ourselves and people around us. I’m happy that I live outside of the city, so it’s much easier for me to spend time outdoors without often meeting other people. Now, I have a lot of time to watch my favourite movies, TV-shows, read books, cook and make new music, of course. I think the world will change after this quarantine. We all will change. Our habits and needs will change. We should get used to the new reality. And at the end, I think we will like it.
