Hamilton Unveils Ventura Watches Based On ‘Dune: Part Two’ Film
Hamilton partnered with filmmaker, Denis Villeneuve, to design a custom “Desert Watch,” for the upcoming film, “Dune: Part Two.” The watch brand also revealed two new models of its iconic Ventura watch inspired by the design of the movie timepiece. Hamilton says working on the new Dune film required a different approach. Villeneuve, requested that Hamilton work alongside the film’s prop master, Doug Harlocker, to craft a watch for another world that defies traditional watch norms.
The watchmakers and designers at Hamilton had no idea of how the device was expected to function. They went to the original 1961 novel, “Dune,” by Frank Herbert, which the film is based on, and worked with Harlocker to create a timepiece that is appropriate for the new film. Together they created a hardwearing wrist device prop specifically for the Fremen. While the Desert Watch is exclusive to the film, The design of the wrist prop inspired Hamilton to launch two limited-edition timepieces based on the three-sided Ventura watch, one of its signature timepieces. The release of these new models coincides with the film’s March 1 release. Both Ventura models feature a luminous blue dial reminiscent of the Fremen’s unmistakable blue eyes and a black rubber strap. They are both powered by a quartz movement. The limited-edition pieces come with commemorative packaging inspired by the film.
